The Alpha 8 tuner, like all Arcam tuners, has sound quality as the primary design goal. When you compare it with mass-market tuners, thie difference is readily apparent. For convenience, it offers 16 FM and 8 AM presets.
The Alpha 8 matches Arcam’s other Alpha components in both sound quality and style. It has the same technical and sonic performance as the Alpha 7 tuner. In addition, its main functions may be operated by infra-red remote control.
Use of the Philips RC-5 remote codes means the Alpha 8 tuner can also be used in conjunction with other brands of high quality hi-fi which use the same remote protocol. This makes the Alpha 8 tuner ideal for multi-room systems. And, to make it even more versatile, the tuner is fitted with two pairs of audio output sockets (one pair for your main hi-fi and the second for another zone or multi room controller). All the tuner’s functions are clearly indicated on the Alpha 8’s custom-built backlit LCD display.
The infra-red remote control we’ve included with the Alpha 8 tuner is the new Arcam CR30 “Handi-Remote”. At the touch of a button this allows you to select the waveband and any of the preset stations programmed into your Alpha 8, along with mono / stereo switching on FM.
In addition this versatile handset has two more groups of keys. One operates the main functions of the Arcam Alpha 7, 8 and 9 CD players and all previous Arcam models (except the Alpha One). The second group operates all remotely controllable Arcam amplifiers, including the Alpha 8, 9 and 10 models.
